“Learning to write programs stretches your mind, and helps you think better, creates a way of thinking about things that I think is helpful in all domains.”

-Bill Gates

THE BENEFITS

Coding is not just a skill. Rather, it’s an entirely new way of thinking when it comes to problem solving. As Steve Jobs once put it: “Everybody in this country should learn to program a computer … because it teaches you how to think.”

The ability to execute code makes programming a tool for thinking and exploring. When we express ideas as programs, we make them testable; when we debug programs, we are also debugging our brains.

The power of modern programming languages is that they are expressive, readable, concise, precise, and executable. That means we can eliminate middleman languages and use one language to explore, learn, teach, and think.

Coding is the art of telling a computer how to perform complex tasks. Once you know how to code, you can create virtual worlds within the computer where the only limit on what is possible is your imagination.

OUR MISSION

It is becoming widely accepted that as software continues to expand in its presence around the world, reading and writing code will eventually become a new form of literacy. We are here to encourage and help preparing our younger generation for this technical revolution which is crucial for their future and ours.

Coding has been portrayed in the past as something exclusively for computer experts, as something very difficult and advanced. However we believe that anyone can learn the basics to code, and teaching children to code at earlier ages can allow them to become familiar with many concepts.

Teaching kids to code is not about programming itself. It’s about promoting creativity, curiosity, teaching persistence, and giving young people a sense of how they can create technology. We want to put this power into the hands and hearts of every child attending our sessions.

Our Sessions

As our culture has become increasingly digital, we have coined this term of “digital natives” to describe the current generation of kids who grow up playing with IPads, cell phones and computers. At SteamWorks,  we believe students should not be passive consumers of knowledge and entertainment. Instead digital natives should have the ability to develop a basic fluency in computer programming and gain a sense of how software works.

Learning shouldn’t be about memorizing facts to simply pass a class. It’s about the joy, enthusiasm and motivation that ignites when an idea truly clicks. Fun learning is increasingly participative, collaborative and ultimately social.  All our sessions are project oriented and progressive-modeled fun activities. Students work on real coding applications, on the first day, that provide the motivation to go deeper. And they can have a lot more fun to unlock cool badges, earn points and level up as they complete projects, pass quizes or share helpful content. The fun doesn’t stop there. Kids can redeem their points for real-world incentives and prizes.

Our lesson platform aggregates content from around both our own creations and the wider web,  allowing us to design each session with multiple manageable assignments, video clips, lecture contents and quizes.

Each Student can study at his/her own pace anywhere and anytime, share contents with fellow students and review progress with teachers/parents.

Each student can track his/her progress on class/home work assignments, quiz completion and results of every session he/she signed up with.

Each student can view all his/her awards from session assignment completions, team work, efforts, design, coding or exam results.

SteamWorks badges are a cool way to reward students for their effort to achieve success and awesomeness. Eash badge is a way to measure some aspects of a student’s progress in his/her learning progress. There are many ways to collect badges, from developing a game to passing a programming quiz at different levels.

From beginner to advanced levels, SteamWorks certificates are awarded to students who completed milestone projects and successfully passed required exams.
